Weekend Beauty Essentials!

Thursday, July 3, 2014 /

Hitting the beach, BBQ, or pool party this weekend? However you will be celebrating this fabulous 4th of July - look effortlessly glamorous with these weekend beauty essentials!

Summer is the best time to lighten up your make-up routine and rock your flawless natural beauty. Keep it simple this weekend! Trust me - a little BB cream, illuminator, and mascara, go a long way!  Below are my favorite “go-to” products for a natural summer glow.

1. BenefitCosmetics You Go Gals! is a trio of complexion perfectors. Primers help to boost and enhance your complexion.  Choose whichever you prefer! “That Gal” brightens your skintone, POREfessional temporarily erases pores, and Girl Meets Pearl luminizes your skin for a dewy glow.

2. Next, skip the foundation and reach for BB cream and a bronzing beauty balm. MaybellineDream Fresh BB cream is one of my daily favorites. It has 8 benefits! – Blurs imperfections, brightens, evens skin-tone, smoothes, hydrates, enhances, protects with SPF 30, and no heavy ingredients…(AKA perfection in a bottle.)

3. To add a subtle, warm glow, Urban Decay Naked Skin Bronzing Beauty Balm is the best!  It instantly enhances your skin-tone and minimizes flaws. For an all over glow, mix it with the BB cream or use it to highlight.

4.  Last, but certainly not least, mascara! No matter where you are this weekend, waterproof mascara is a must. Revlon Lash Potion is one of my favorites! It provides long, voluminous lashes while protecting against the elements.

5. To battle the heat and prevent a makeup meltdown, Urban Decay Chill Makeup SettingSpray is the ultimate beauty saver. This mist is refreshing and hydrating! It chills the surface to help lock in your makeup. You can use this during the day for a quick refresher, or spritz it on at night for a gorgeous just applied look.

6. Achieve that “day at the beach” look with Not Your Mother’s Sea Salt Texturizing Spray. This spray adds sexy tousled waves with a matte finish.  I love using this product at many different times! You can spray it and style it with your fingers for a beachy effect. OR you can spritz some at your roots for added volume when styling at night!

7. Complete your look with Victoria’s Secret Rockin’ Body Perfecting Cream.  This is one of my favorite products to use when going out at night. It provides a warm glow and highlights all your features from head to toe. You’ll be sure to turn heads looking just as glamorous as a supermodel!

Now that you’ve got all these fabulous beauty essentials for your gorgeous self, throw on a pair of your favorite aviators, relax and soak up the sun this 4th of July!

Enjoy your weekend, beauties!

How We Wear It: 'Same Old Chic'

Wednesday, July 2, 2014 /

If you’re anything like me, you know how easy it can be to fall into a fashion rut. Due to the fact that my closet is comprised of basics in various shades of black, the “rut” into which I fall never really comes as a surprise. Yet however chic I imagine my rut to be, it inevitably leaves me feeling underdressed, uninspired, and curled up in a ball of desperation. If you, too, suffer from this predicament, have no fear — solving the “different day, same old chic” dilemma is easier than you think.
If I happen to feel myself lacking in creative vision, I merely revert to an old tried and true trick, and my outfit today is a perfect example. It’s a phenomenon known to every fashion girl in the world, and for good reason: it works.  The secret? Juxtaposition. Simply mix opposites together, and the result is always magic.

For my outfit, I chose a mix of high and low. I paired my casual Rebel Redefined t-shirt with some thrifted jeans, and mixed them with over-the-top sunglasses and a sleek pair of leather flats. Without accessories, my outfit would have been boring at best. But with a little flair to contrast the potential dullness, I ensured that that the only place for the “different day, same old chic” problem was on my shirt.

Tuesday Tunes

Tuesday, July 1, 2014 /

July is here and it is officially feeling like summer outside! Summer is my absolute favorite season because the days are longer, the sun is brighter, and most importantly – my skin is tanner. The perfect addition to any beach or pool day is the perfect playlist. I love finding fun new artists to listen to rather than the same old songs that replay on the radio getting us stuck in a music rut. With the holiday weekend coming get ready to relax, blast your new favorite song, and definitely get your tan on.

Below are some of my favorite rising artists to check out!

1. Chela

This electro pop singer is the ultimate Rebel girl.  The 24 year old Melbourne-based singer born Chelsea May Wheatley, is gaining recognition for her unique style and music. She sounds like a mix between Lily Allen and Sky Ferreira, and I’ve had ‘Romanticise’ on repeat for days.

2. Caitlyn Scarlett

 Caitlyn Scarlett is an ultra-talented 18 year old from London who just released her debut EP in May titled ‘Jurassic Jukebox and Drugs’.  I have had ‘Bad Love’ on every playlist of mine since I first heard it. I can’t wait to see how huge Miss Scarlett will get in the future!

3. Wild Belle

 Wild Belle is a pop indie brother-and-sister duo from the US. They first started getting attention in 2012 when they released their single “Keep You”. In 2013 they released their debut album ‘Isles’. What I love about them is their unusual mix of styles. I love this remix of their song “It’s Too Late” by Employee Of The Year.

4. Ryn Weaver

 This pop songstress just released her first pop single OctaHate less than a week ago – and it deserves a spot on your summer playlist. The catchy song got attention from Jesse Ware and Passion Pit that are now fans of hers. I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with this summer!

5. Little May

 Little May is a folk and indie band formed in Australia in 2012. The trio includes the talented Hannah Field, Liz Drummond and Annie Hamilton. They just released their buzz-worthy single “Dust” and it will make you want to be dressed like you just walked out of Free People catalog (possibly frolicking in a field? – OK, maybe that’s just me)

Who We Heart: Instagram

/

Don't deny it, we are all constantly glued to our phones refreshing our beloved Instagram accounts. Instagram is – and always has been – my favorite. I can easily spend hours scrolling through my feed, soaking up all the carefully composed shots of wonderfully creative people whose lives are WAY more exciting than mine will ever be. Admittedly though, it can get a little blasé after one too many #onthetable brunch shots or random hands holding inanimate objects against blank walls.  With that said, there are a few accounts that never fail me when all the others become just a little too #basic.
Below are my current top 5 to check out!

@NATALIEOFFDUTY

Natalie Suarez’s list of accomplishments seemingly never ends. Not only is she a model, a blogger, a stylist and a photographer (to name a few), she is a certified Instagram queen. Her feed is full of pictures from her countless photo shoots, frequent adventures and amazingly eclectic wardrobe, and every photo she posts is even more lust worthy than the last.

@KELIANNE

You probably haven’t heard her name before, but mark my words: Kelia MacCluskey is about to hit the big time. I had the privilege of living with this girl during my first year of college, so I’ve seen firsthand just how much talent she truly has. Her photography and artwork is mind-blowingly beautiful, and even her Instagram seems something out of a dream. Once you see life from her view, you’ll never look at anything the same again.

@SAINTRECORDS

Beyonce may run the world, but Solange Knowles is singlehandedly taking over Instagram. This girl’s feed is absolutely flawless, and between her uncanny fashion sense and incredible use of color, developing an instant obsession is almost inevitable. Her byline, which reads “I’m Solange. I be taking pictures,” is as simple yet profound as her pictures, which never fail to stun with us. Keep doin’ you Solange, ‘cause we be loving it.

@MANREPELLER

If you like fashion and you somehow haven’t heard of Leandra Medine, my guess is that you’ve been living under a rock for an extended period of time. This woman’s claim to fame is her ability to repel men through her sartorial choices, and the unfailing wit she uses to share her man-repelling exploits. While her Instagram is mostly an extension of her blog, what a sweet extension it is. Every picture she posts and caption she writes is wildly hilarious, and never fails to brighten my day. If you are not already following her, I suggest you do so now. You will not regret it.

@PARIDUST

Pari Ehsan has one of the most glamorous Insta's ever. If there are two things I love in the world, they are fashion and art, and this girl obviously has an eye for both. Her Instagram is full of fabulous outfits inspired by beautiful art.
